Optimising your website with Ezoic to increase user engagement and earnings
I have recently implemented Ezoic on my site and initial signs are that this is awesome and adds so much more than the ability to test hundreds and thousands of layout / ad network /ad style combinations. Which in its self is immensely powerful, you just have to think about all the possibilities�.x number of networks
�each with x number of ad sizes
�all in different colours and in different positions of your site!!!!! That�s a lot of combinations!! How long would it take to test all this yourself????
Anyway check out my initial Ezoic review and findings from the first few weeks of implementation. Below is also a number of benefits that I didn�t necessarily expect to get when I first signed up.
- 5 minute implementation
The implementation is very easy and although a little daunting if you don�t really understand what you doing it only takes a few minutes. You basically just need to point your hosting server to the Ezoic names servers. For me this actually involved completing a form and emailing it to my host one.com, but I believe many providers let you change your name servers via the online control panel. For a non-technical idea of what you are doing here you are basically adding Ezoic in between your files and the end user. This then allows Ezoic to either show them to the user as they are or perform the optimisation and display using a variety of different layout/ ad placement options.
It's a bit more complicated than this because a copy is actually taken and stored with all the none contect removed, this is then ready to be displayed to the user via whichever layout is being tested but you get the idea. - Layout testing
Once you have setup your website on the Ezoic platform for free it will automatically test hundreds if not thousands of different layouts and ad combinations to find the ones that perform the best for monetisation, user engagement or a combination of both.
- Instant Mobile/tablet friendly support
Auto display a mobile optimised version of your website to users that access it via a mobile device. To do this all you need to do is go to the Ezoic app store and install the free "Mobile friendly" app.
That�s it your site will now be displayed using a variety of mobile optimised layouts, these will be tested like the desktop versions until the best performing one is found!! The app also allows you to restrict the percentage of mobile traffic that uses it until you are happy it works ok.
- Create a native iPhone App automatically
As well as displaying a mobile friendly version of your site, Ezoic also has an "iOS App Creator" app that allows you to create a native iPhone app. Once installed this creates a full blow iOS App automatically which is also updated as and when your website is updated.
All you need to provide is 2 images for the app/launch icons and it will be submitted to the apple app store. It also uses Ezoic�s developer account so you don�t even have to pay for a developer account of your own, which will save you a few quid. Please note there is a small charge of $4.99 a month for this but depending on your requirements the increased exposure of your site and the ads displayed via the iPhone App should cover this. If not just uninstall it at a later date.
I have not currently installed this myself yet but when I do I will let you know how it went, you will also be able to check out the result. Just a quick note for those who are thinking about giving Ezoic a try and are worried about additional charges, the iOS App creator is the only app that has an additional charge!!
- Automatically create internal links between your pages
Another useful free app within the Ezoic app store is the EZlinks app which automatically builds links from relevant keywords in the text of one page of your website to another appropriate page on your site. - Implements CloudFlare technology
Once setup on Ezoic your website will benefit from the CloudFlare technology which protects and accelerates any website online. This is free and comes installed by default but you can uninstall it if you want. Once CloudFlare is installed it will route your traffic through an intelligent global network to optimise page load as well as block threats and abusive bots/crawlers.
- Add a comments system to your website
Although installing Ezoic will not affect any existing commenting system you have installed (i.e. you can see my site still uses disqus), you do have the option to install the Solid Opinion commenting system automatically. This could be really useful for sites that currently don�t have a comments system or who are looking to implement a new one. - All your ad networks/types in one place biding against each other
A huge benefit of the platform is the fact that all your revenue and ad networks are actually controlled in one place and are all competing against each other automatically without you having to do anything. The Ezoic Ad Partner list includes loads of ad networks and you are also able add others via an app called Mediation.
�Think about it, you no longer have to pick which network performs best overall you can get them all bidding against each other for ad space along with Ezoic ad partners. I did have switchads running, which allows you to set an RPM level, if switchads can beat this they show and ad from their network and if not it passes the impression onto a backup network. This is pretty cool and I still use for another site but Ezoic seems to take this a step further and also makes it easier for you to implement.
The platform also gives you access to addition forms of revenue ad types depending on what you are using now. These include In-line Ad Units, Native Ad Units and Pop-Under Ad units. I have personally not turned these on yet but will probably try them out when it has been running for a while and earnings are more stable.
- Automatically creates you a Privacy Policy
During the setup process Ezoic automatically creates you a compliant privacy policy for your site and links to it from every page of your website. Don�t worry though if this is not what you want and you have got a privacy policy you would prefer you can change or add information to the generated one via the �Privacy Policy� App. - Automatically creates you a cookie consent/information link
As it is now a requirement to add a cookie consent / information option to your website the fact the Ezoic implements this automatically could be very useful, especially for those sites that have not implemented this yet.
